The top left plate measures 6'' x 6"; it was fired to cone 10 in a reduction atmosphere. Glazes were multi-dipped. The three stripes are porcelain inlay. The plates on the top left are 3" x 6", also fired to cone 10 with a soda ash wash over the glaze. The three stripes are porcelain slip.
The bottom two plates are 9" x 9". They are formed by ram press then altered by hand while leather hard. I used porcelain and a red stoneware clay. The decoration is clay added before the plate is pressed. They were part of an experimental batch of 100. These two were fired in a soda/salt kiln.
Laird Plumliegh of Alchemie Studio showed me how to make the master mold and let me use his press. His mold making technique is quite unique in that he builds in conduit for an air release system. Very slick! Just pops 'em right out!
